When you are finished with Step 1, your truffle will look like this. |

Mix colors: [ 1 ] [ 2 ] [ 3 ] |

Before you begin, remove any excess graphite with your kneaded eraser. Gold wrapper Outside area Load your clean watercolor brush with [ 1 ], and, starting on the left side, paint to the left as far as shown in the illustration. Quickly dip your brush into clean water, and slide the excess color off the brush. Paint the right side of the wrapper with this lighter value, softening the lower edge with a clean moist brush, leaving a white highlight at the bottom as shown in the illustration. Rinse your brush and blot well. Let dry. Inside area Load your clean brush with [ 2 ]. Paint all the solid pleats in the mid section, and the one on the far right, of the wrapper as shown in the illustration, carefully avoiding painting over the areas that are to remain white. Let each pleat dry before painting the one next to it. Paint the pleats over on the right next. Load your clean brush again with [ 2 ], and paint down the left side of the pleat. Quickly take a clean moist brush, and soften that inside edge over to the right side of the pleat. Again, be careful not to paint over the areas that are to remain white. Let each pleat dry before you paint the one next to it. Paint the pleats over on the left next in the same manner, but painting down the right side of the pleat, and softening the inside edge over to the left. Chocolate Truffle Shadow Load your clean brush with [ 2 ], and paint the large shadow shape on the lower left side, softening along the upper edge of the shadow with a clean moist brush. Let dry completely. Icing Load your clean brush that has a nice point with [ 2 ], and using the illustration as a guide, paint along the lower edge of the icing as soon. The icing is broken up into sections. Take care not to go over a cross section. Let each line of the icing dry before painting the one next to it. Cast Shadow Take a small brush load of [ 1 ], and place in a separate well on your palette. Load your clean brush with [ 3 ], and blot your brush once lightly on your paper towel. Now dip the tip of your brush into the small puddle of [ 1 ], and starting at the back, paint toward yourself with this color combo as far as shown in the illustration. (Do NOT rinse out your brush.) Quickly blot your brush once lightly on your paper towel, and load your brush with [ 3 ]. Paint with [ 3 ] until you reach the narrow shadow section. Quickly blot your brush lightly on your paper towel, and dip the tip of your brush into the small puddle of [ 1 ]. Finish painting the narrow cast shadow with this color combo. Let dry. |

The Finishing Touches |  |

When you are finished with Step 2, your truffle look like this. |

Gold wrapper Outside area You will be painting each pleat individually. Load your clean brush with [ 1 ], and starting with the first pleat over on the left, paint along the top and down the right side of the pleat. Quickly take a clean moist brush and soften along the inside edge as shown in the illustration above. Repeat the same for the other pleats, letting each one dry completely before painting the one next to it. Rinse your brush and blot well. Next, load your clean brush with [ 3 ], and paint the darker shadow areas, softening some of the inside edges in the same manner as you did with [ 1 ]. Remember to let each one dry before you paint the one next to it. Inside area Load your clean brush with [ 3 ], and paint the solid shadow shape on the lower left, and the shadow shapes over on the right. With [ 3 ] still in your brush, paint the other two pleats in the same manner as the outside pleats. Rinse your brush and blot well. Let dry. Chocolate Truffle Load your clean brush that has a nice point with [ 4 ]and, starting at the back, paint one of the small shapes. Take a tissue and lightly tissue blot that area. Repeat this for all the shapes on top of the truffle. With [ 3 ] still in your brush, paint the solid shapes in the front, lightly tissue blotting the lighter areas. When all the shapes have been painted, take a clean moist brush and lift out the two highlights as shown in the illustration above. Cast Shadow Load your clean brush with [ 3 ], and lightly paint the shadow area under the truffle. Gently soften the inside edge with water. Let dry . | ||||
